Former Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today filed a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition in the Supreme Court over the loss incurred by the Government through the reduction of the import tax on sugar.
Former JVP MP Sunil Handunnetti and former Provincial Councilor and Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala have filed the petition.
The petitioners state that their fundamental rights have been violated through the Government's decision to reduce the sugar tax, which had resulted in a loss of Rs 15.9 billion to the State.
