Mayor of Jaffna Municipal Council (JMC) V. Manivannan tested positive for COVID-19 following a PCR test carried out yesterday, the Mayor's office said.
Mayor Manivannan requested those who came into contact with him from March 20 onwards to contact their respective local health authorities for further steps in keeping up with COVID-19 precautionary guidelines.
Mayor Manivannan tested positive after he attended a wedding ceremony on March 20 and was under self quarantine after an individual who took part in the ceremony contracted the virus, Mayor’s office said.
Jaffna district saw a sudden spike of new COVID-19 cases this week as 24 persons tested positive yesterday alone from Thirunelvely vegetables market.
