An estimated Rs 160 million has been allocated to expand the Jaffna Palali Airport as a new development project owing to the increasing number of passengers traveling between India, an official of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Services said.
Accordingly, within the next 5 months, the passenger terminal of Palali Airport will be expanded and measures will be taken to provide facilities to the passengers as it will be possible to reduce the current congestion in the passenger terminal.
The new project also plans to renew 900 meters of the existing 2300 meters runway at Palali Airport and extend the runway by 300 meters.
At present, there are 4 flights per week between Palali Airport and India and the authorities have focused on conducting flights throughout the week in due course.
