A Jaffna-based young independent journalist succumbed to COVID-19 yesterday after he was denied vaccine by health authorities due to his long-standing health issue.
Pragas Gnanapragasam, a muscular dystrophy patient passed away last evening shortly after he was admitted to Kodikaamam base hospital with breathing difficulties, his family said.
On Wednesday, he published a tweet in his Twitter handle saying he had tested positive for the coronavirus.
“I tested positive for Covid 19 today after five days fever. now health normally good. I muscular dystrophy patient but so far not vaccinated me,” he tweeted.
When asked by his followers why he did not receive the vaccine, he responded saying despite his father requesting the regional health authorities to vaccinate him, he was not given due to his underlying health conditions.
