Former Minister Johnston Fernando arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for using an unregistered luxury vehicle is due to be produced in courts.
The CID recorded his statement and thereafter decided to arrest him over the allegation.
The vehicle used by the former Minister was left behind at a five star hotel in Colombo.
Meanwhile Mr Fernando’s lawyers had filed a petition in the Court of Appeal seeking an order to prevent his arrest. His lawyers told courts that Mr Fernando will be making at statement to the CID today.
Accordingly, the former minister called over at the CID where he was arrested later.
In a separate development the Colombo High Court also issued an arrest warrant on the former Minister who had failed turn up in courts in relation to a case where is has been accused of using CWE employees during the 2010 – 2014 period.
