Minister of Justice, Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe appealed to the Speaker today in the parliament to cancel the debate which is to take place tomorrow regarding the sinking of the Xpress Pearl ship and the case.
He said any comments about the incident could adversely affect the court proceedings taking place in Singapore regarding the X-Press Pearl.ship.
The case was filed at the Singapore court to claim compensation for the damages caused by the X-press pearl maritime disaster caused in the Sri Lankan seas on May 20, 2021.
This disaster caused a severe negative impact on the coastal environment of Sri Lanka and the economy, while fishermen were forced to refrain from fishing for several weeks due to environmental pollution.
