The Karapitiya branch of the Association of Medical Specialists (AMS) have expressed their deep concern over the incident that took place on Tuesday (16), disrupting the cancer care service of Senior Consultant Oncological Surgeon Dr. S.C.R Perera at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.
The specialist was arrested for reportedly verbally abusing junior staffers and assaulting a female employee that were a part of the health workers’ token strike.
The AMS expressing concern on Thursday (18) has written to the Director of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital following the arrest of Dr. Perera, requesting them to hold an urgent impartial inquiry and restore normal services of the institution at their earliest.
The letter stated that Dr. Perera had written a complaint, raising his concern over the disruption of cancer surgery, and been attacked by a “life threatening mob”.
