Street food sellers operating from Kimbulawala in Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte have been ordered by the Road Development Authority (RDA) to withdraw from the area by September 8.
The street food sellers claims that the order has come despite the Urban Development Authority (UDA) earlier agreeing that they could operate from the area without obstructing traffic.
Currently more than 250 persons have put up various food stalls with some 1000 persons directly dependent on the business.
Earlier, following complaints over disposal of garbage and traffic obstructions they were told to quit, but the UDA intervened and allow the sellers to continue.
However, since the RDA and the UDA are under two different ministries a fresh issue has risen.
Several of the traders put up their stalls after losing their permanent employment due to the COVID 19 situation.
