The Mayor of Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte Municipal Council has been beaten up by a lorry driver after an argument which took place at Pitakotte yesterday (4), Police said.
The incident took place after an argument between the two parties over the Mayor's vehicle been parked on the road by the driver blocking traffic.
The lorry driver whose residence was close by had brought a pole from his residence and beaten up the Mayor, I.A.V. Premalal. He was hospitalised and had undergone surgery.
The lorry driver and his assistant have been arrested.
