Train services on the up-country railway line were disrupted yesterday (08) due to a landslide that happened close to the railway track at Uduwara in Haliela.The earth slip occurred between the Hali-Ela and Uduwara train stations at 177 milestone, according to the railway Department.
Nandana Idipolage spokesperson for the railway department said trains functioning from Badulla to Colombo were halted temporarily due to the earth slip. He also stated that railroad workers are working to remove the rails so that interrupted operations along the Upcountry Line can resume.
He added that the trains that go from Pettah to Badulla, which includes Ella Odyssey, had started at 5:55 a.m. and by the time it reaches Hali Ela will resume its work.
According to the Haliela railway station, trains that were supposed to leave Badulla for Colombo at 8.30 a.m. were able to start at 10.30, and the railway line is now back in service.
