Lanka to explore possibility of nuclear power generation
The Cabinet has decided to consider the option of nuclear energy for electricity generation.
Accordingly, an operation committee and nine action groups were appointed to explore the details regarding it.
There is a possibility of nuclear energy generation in accordance with the independent evaluation report provided by the active groups and the conditions of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardena said.
For this purpose, the Minister of Power and Energy and Minister of Foreign Affairs submitted a proposal to become a party to the Convention on Supplementary Compensation, which was accepted by the Cabinet.
