A leopard which was trapped inside a house in the Lindula area was rescued by the Nuwara Eliya Wild Life officers on (05) Friday.
The leopard that was chasing a dog had jumped onto the roof and had fallen into the house located in Logie Coombwood estate in the Lindula area.
The house owner S.Suresh said that he and his family were watching television around 10 p.m. when the leopard fell through the roof into one of the rooms.
After hearing a loud noise, the house owner I into the room and saw the presence of a leopard with a roaring sound,”, he said.
At dawn, with the help of some neighbours, thinking that the leopard had escaped during the night, when the house owner tried to open the room, the leopard attacked them.They immediately closed the door and escaped. The resident sustained minor injuries.
Meanwhile, another person was admitted to Lindulla Hospital with serious injuries and has been shifted to Nuwara Eliya General Hospital for further treatment.
Wildlife Department officers along with Veterinarian Akalanka Pinideniya of the Randenigala Veterinary Hospital following a mission which took around 16 hours, were able to sedate the leopard and safely transport it out of the house.
Nuwara-Eliya Wildlife Department sources stated that the leopard will be safely relocated.
Officials of wildlife Department said that the captured leopard was a 6 foot long 5 year old male leopard and was taken there and released back into the forest areas.
