The Chairman of MILCO, Renuka Perera has resigned in protests over the Government’s proposed privatisation plans of the institution.
His resignation comes three days after trade unions demanded that he steps down.
Mr. Perera told Timesonline that he sent his resignation letter to the Finance Ministry.
The Chairman in his letter said he was against the proposed privatisation plans of MILCO and believes that there was no reason to remain in the post.
He criticised the government policy on privatisation of the institution.
Meanwhile Mr. Perera is set to re-enter politics of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
His resignation was seen as part of the rift developing between SLPP members and the Government.
Last week MP Namal Rajapaksa criticised the increase of VAT and stayed away from the vote in Parliament though former President Mahinda Rajapaksa voted in favour.
