Mr. Mahinda Siriwardena has officially resumed his role as Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development as of today (20) after being reappointed to the post.
A ceremony marking his resumption of duties was attended by senior officials, including Deputy Secretaries to the Treasury and Heads of Departments under the Ministry.
Mr. Siriwardena has played a role in securing the Extended Credit Facility from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and advancing Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring process.
He previously served as the Alternate Executive Director for Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, and Bhutan at the IMF.
Mr. Siriwardena holds a Master’s degree in Economics and a Postgraduate Diploma in Economic Development from Vanderbilt University, USA, as well as a Bachelor of Arts (Special) in Economics from the University of Kelaniya.
He has also undergone extensive international training in macroeconomic management, forecasting, monetary policy, public financial management, debt management, and fiscal programming.
