The People’s National Congress (PNC) party in Maldives led by President Mohamed Muizzu secured victory in the Parliamentary elections on Sunday.
President Muizzu’s PNC won 66 of the first 86 seats declared, according to the Elections Commission of Maldives results.
The opposition, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) was headed headed for a defeat with just a dozen seats, foreign media reports said.
President Muizzu’s earlier campaign theme for the presidential election was “India out,” accusing his predecessor of compromising national sovereignty.
