Man arrested for rape and murder of school girl after 15 years

A suspect wanted for a rape and murder of a 15 year old girl has been arrested after 15 years while another man believed to be falsely acused for the same crime is languihsing in jail

The Eheliyagoda Police on Wednesday arrested a 39 year old for raping a 15 year old school girl in 2009 at Kosgahamukalana, this week. She was returning home from school when the crime was committed.

Another man, a cowherd in a local forest was accused for the crime back in 2009, and thus, he was jailed instead.

Afterwards, conducting an investigation on DNA tests, the suspect was identified and arrested, consequently produced to the Avissawella Court on September 29.

Police are conducting further investigation on the matter.
