A 44 year old in Akkaraipattu was arrested for smuggling cigarettes into Sri Lanka, the STF said today.
Upon information received, the STF officers of the Akkaraipattu camp conducted a raid yesterday in the Palamune 1 area of Akkaraipattu, where a resident of Kalmunaikudi was arrested with 440 Manchester cigarettes.
The cigarettes were revealed to have been smuggled into the country without paying customs duty and the suspect was handed over to the Akkaraipattu Police for further investigation.
The raid was conducted by officers of the Akkaraipattu Camp including the Deputy Inspector D. P. M. Madusanka under the guidance of Deputy Superintendent of Police Bandhusiri.
