A person who carried a nine millimeter fire arm to the departure terminal of the Bandaranike International airport was arrested by airport police yesterday.
According to police the arrested man had the fire arm, 12 bullets and a magazine hidden in his trouser pocket.
They explained that the suspect had come to drop off a passenger. The detection was made when the suspect bent over for some task exposing the fire arm which was held in his pocket.
The suspect was identified as Warnakula Prabath Kokila Mendis (41) businessman.
The police said that the suspect did not have a license for the fire arm, they added that keeping a fire arm into a busy international airport is an offence.
Further investigation revealed, that the fire arm was identified as C-Z P-10 C – nine millimeter Czechoslovakian manufactured fire arm.
The police had seized the fire arm, bullets and extra magazine along with Rs 97,000 while when was arrested.
The police investigation has untraveled that the suspect was charged for murder carried out by shooting.
Steps have been taken to hand over suspect and the firearm, ammunition and cash in his possession to the Peliyagoda District Crimes Division for further investigation into this matter.
