A man who tried to use his wife’s passport to take another woman to Italy has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport.
The man, a resident of Jaffna had brought a 29-year-old woman claiming that she was his wife had arrived at the BIA expecting to board an Air Arabia flight this afternoon, but the Immigration officer had felt suspicious and referred them to the border control Unit.
During further questioning, it was revealed that he had brought the passport of his wife who was currently in Italy and tried to take another woman.
The man had brought his wife’s passport while arriving in Sri Lanka and prepared a forged rubber stamp from the Immigration Department. He had made use of the stamp to indicate that his wife had arrived in the country making use of the passport.
The same man had taken another woman in a similar manner earlier. The man was travelling with his son. Investigations by the Department of Immigration are underway. (By T.K.G. Kapila)
