A man with explosives used for industrial purposes and non-electric detonators was apprehended by the Navy and Police in a joint operation on Thursday (23).
SLNS Walagamba and Vijayaba, part of the Eastern Naval Command, conducted a coordinated operation with the support of Trincomalee Police.
The explosive items are suspected to have been intended for illegal fishing activities.
A 31-year-old suspect from Senthur, Poduwakattu, has been handed over to Trincomalee Police along with the impounded explosive items for legal action.
SL Navy is actively combating illegal fishing practices in island waters, aiming to protect marine life and ecosystems from potential harm.
