The Metrology Department has issued a red alert to fishermen not to go out to sea in the eastern and northern areas from today evening onwards due to Strong Winds and Rough Seas
The warning will be valid until Tuesday 6.00 P.m.
There is a possibility to increase swell waves (about 2.5 – 3.0 m height) and strong winds, gusting up to (55-60) kmph in the sea areas off the coast extending from Pottuvil to Mannar via Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Kankasanthurai.
The above sea areas will be rough and very rough at times.
‘Therefore, it is advised not to venture into fishing and naval activities in the sea areas off the coast extending from Pottuvil to Mannar via Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Kankasanthurai and requested to be vigilant, in the other sea areas around the island from 06.00 p.m. today’, the Department added.
