A formal investigation committee has been appointed to probe an incident involving the sea plane that crashed into the Gregory Lake in Nuwara Eliya, the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka said today.
The Committee comprises experts in aircraft engineering and operations.

The CAA today issued a statement over the incident involving the Cessna 208 Grand Caravan aircraft bearing registration 4R-CAE, operated by Cinnamon Air, which occurred on Wednesday at Gregory Lake, Nuwara Eliya.
The Authority said under the guidance of the Ministry of Ports & Civil Aviation, Capt. Daminda Rambukwella, Director General of Civil Aviation & Chief Executive Officer, promptly deployed a team to the site following the initial report.
Recovery operations are currently underway, with the support of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Navy, Police, and local civilians, including boat riders who assisted during the initial response, the Authority said.

The investigation team is also engaging master divers to assist with recovery efforts. Once the aircraft is retrieved, it will be transported to Katunayake for further technical investigations, the Authority added.
Meanwhile residents in the area said they noticed that the Sea Plane was travelling faster than usual ahead of the incident.
