The Colombo Magistrate Court today acquitted Minister Johnston Fernando and two others over two bribery cases filed in the past.
Earlier cases were filed by the Bribery Commission against Minister Johnston Fernando, former CWE Chairman Iraj Fernando, and former CWE Director (Operations) Mohamed Zakeer for utilising the services of 153 Co-operative Wholesale Establishment (CWE) employees for political activities.
The Bribery Commission filed indictment papers saying that the suspects could be penalised for violating Section 70 of the Bribery Act by committing this offence between 2010 and 2014.
