The government has started a Mobile Laboratory Bus Service for Western Province, to identify drivers who drive under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
According to this service, test reports for 04 types of drugs can be obtained within 2–3 minutes.
And testing service is carried out by the National Transport Commission, the National Transport Medical Institute and the Sri Lanka Police jointly.
According to the process, urine samples of drivers are tested and its results reports are given immediately at the same location.
Meanwhile that plans are in place to expand the technology to identify up to 12 types of drugs in the future, the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development said.
The service, which started in the Western Province is planned to be expanded to all island across in the future.
