Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that he has been vaccinated against COVID-19 virus.
“Took my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at AIIMS. Remarkable how our doctors and scientists have worked in quick time to strengthen the global fight against COVID-19,” the Indian Premier said in his official Twitter account.
“I appeal to all those who are eligible to take the vaccine. Together, let us make India COVID-19 free!”, Mr. Modi said.
Sri Lanka received 500,000 doses of Indian manufactured Oxford-AstraZeneca-Covishield vaccine free from India under its ‘Vaccine Maitri’ initiative earlier this year and another 500,000 doses arrived in the country last week.
According to the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry here, 466,350 persons have been vaccinated against the virus.
