A part of the 33,000 watt high-tension cable stretched across Dhammarakkitha Mawatha, Kataragama has been damaged by monkeys.
Residents said that these monkeys run on this cable somersaulting and as a result of these monkey pranks, part of the cable is hanging down, risking people and vehicles below it. This precarious situation is prevailing for the past several months but no authorities or institutions have taken any steps to rectify the matter.
When media inquired about it from the Hambantota Electrical Engineer’s Office, a high official in anonymity said that this cable was repaired several months back and again the monkeys have damaged it. Steps will be taken to repair it again, he said.
Here is the damaged wire.
