To curb the illegal actions by those visiting to witness the blooming of the Nelu flowers the authorities of the Horton Plains National Park have decided to ask for the assistance of additional officers.
Accordingly on the directives of the Director General of Wildlife Conservation, Samira Ratnayake, the park warden will deploy officers of the Hakgala Station in Nuwara Eliya including site security officers and officers from the Seetha Eliya Wildlife Beat Office.
This is after reports that the large influx of tourists to the Thotupola Kanda area of the Horton Plains National Park during the Nelu flowering season has caused environmental damage including the plucking of flowers, breaking of flower branches, taking photographs with flower branches after damaging the plants.
