Three individuals including the mother of a seven-month infant have been taken into police custody today (2) in Jaffna for assaulting the infant and producing the video of the incident.
Soon after, the video went viral on social media sites, Nallur Divisional Secretary and officials of the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) informed the police to arrest the mother and two other individuals who recorded the footage.
Police preliminary investigations revealed that the mother of the infant and the other two orchestrated the assault on the infant in order to obtain money from the father who is currently working in a Middle-East country. The seven-month infant is currently in police protective custody.
The arrested individuals are to be produced before Jaffna magistrate courts shortly. (Pix by N.Lohathayalan)
