A 26-year-old mother was arrested for ill-treating her two children, the Peliyagoda Police said today (May 18).
Based on a complaint received yesterday, they had conducted an investigation where it was revealed that a 26 year old mother was ill-treating her 9 year old daughter and mentally ill 13 year old son.
When she leaves for work, she leaves her children unsafely in a room of her house in Thorana Junction, Kelaniya, from morning until she returns in the night, without paying attention to the educational and nutritional aspects of her children.
The woman was arrested yesterday in the evening and would be produced to the Aluthkade Magistrate today.
The two children have been taken into the care of the Police, who are conducting further investigations.
