Motorcyclist killed in hit-and-run; suspect also injured in second accident

A 28-year-old woman was killed when two motorbikes collided at the 4th Mile Post in Welipenna along the Aluthgama-Matugama Road last night (02). 

Police said a motorbike traveling towards Aluthgama from Matugama had collided from behind with a motorbike traveling in the same direction, resulting in the motorbike that was in front skidding off the road. The female motorcyclist who was on the motorbike that skidded off the road died upon admission to the Seenawatta Hospital due to her injuries. 

The motorcyclist responsible for the crash had attempted to flee without stopping but had then collided with another motorbike that was in front. The motorcyclist who fled the scene of the original accident suffered injuries in this accident and was admitted to the Darga Town Hospital, before being transferred to the Nagoda Hospital for further treatment. 

The victim has been identified as a 28-year-old resident of Darga Town. Welipenna Police are investigating.
