After a five-day official visit to India, the National People's Power (NPP) team, led by Anura Kumara Dissanayake, returned to the island this evening (February 10).
Speaking to the media after his return, he mentioned that a news conference would be held in the next few days to provide full details regarding his formal visit.
He told the media “visiting to a foreign country and meeting the state leaders of the country is no reason to change our political or economic outlook” further commenting that “we are not the first political group to visit India”.
He said that in agreement with the Government of India, promises had been made between the two governments, as “we are a political business and we have furthered our understanding”.
According to a party statement, the delegation departed for India on Monday, May 5, on an official invitation of the Indian government.
Mr Dissanayake met with a number of influential Indian politicians and officials during the visit, including Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, India's National Security Advisor, and Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar.
The talks centered on the two countries' bilateral relations.
The delegation also participated in an observation tour of Ahmedabad's agro-industries and agricultural areas.
Leading the NPP team comprising Vijitha Herath, Nihal Abeysinghe, and Prof. Anil Jayantha to India on a five-day, three-city tour that included stops in New Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Thiruvananthapuram.
