The Cabinet has decided to name October 24 as the National Day for the Supply Chain to increase knowledge on the supply chains for businessmen and other related people.
The decision of the Cabinet to approve this proposal of Minister of Industries, Ramesh Pathirana was announced by the Minister of Transport and Highways and Media, Bandula Gunawardena in the weekly Cabinet Briefing on Wednesday (October 26).
The Minister explained the importance of the supply chain by citing the example of rubber, which is converted to tires successfully from rubber milk through rubber tappers to tire factories.
“If this supply chain goes wrong at some point, the entire system will break down, rendering it unable to compete with foreign markets”, the Minister stated.
While reminding that there are degrees in Universities for supply chain management, the Minister added that providing a separate day for the supply chain would provide awareness among businessmen and people who are involved in it.
