Senior United National Party (UNP) member Navin Dissanayake today made an early exit from a party meeting in Kuliyapitiya described as the launch of their Presidential election campaign, after he was omitted from the speaker’s list.
After leaving the meeting he tweeted a message expressing displeasure over the failure to give him a speech.
“I politely excused myself from the @officialunp meeting today as I was promised a speech and later found out I was cut. Wonder who is making these decisions on behalf of @RW_UNP.I will stand by the party but man’s dignity should not be compromised,” he said in the message.
There was no immediate explanation from the party as to why he was omitted from the speakers list.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
