At least 21 Indian fishermen were taken into custody by the Navy yesterday at two separate incidents of engaging in illegal fishing activities in the Northern sea, the Navy said.
The separate operations led to the seizure of four Indian trawlers along with arrested fishermen poaching in Sri Lankan waters off Mannar and off Kovilan, Kankasanthurei.
The arrested Indian fishermen (21) and the poaching trawlers (04) were brought to the Talaimannar Pier and Kankasanthurai harbour and they will be handed over to the Talaimannar and Jaffna Fisheries Inspectors for onward legal action, according to the Navy.
