Navy has commenced a dedicated rescue mission this morning (23rd November 2021) to locate missing persons in ferry accident that occurred near Kurinchankerny bridge in Kinniya, Trincomalee.
Accordingly Navy deployed Eight (08) rescue teams representing Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS), Special Boat Squadron (SBS), Marines and Divers and operations are underway to search missing persons, Navy said. The ferry had been used by residents of this area due to the construction of the existing Kurinchankerny bridge.
As of now, 06 dead bodies have been recovered by rescue teams while 12 persons have been rescued and hospitalized. The Navy is continuing a search operation in the area further.
