Six suspects were arrested and three dinghies carrying about 2,032 kg (wet weight) of sea cucumber were intercepted by the Sri Lanka Navy last night (8) during a search operation in the Uchchamunai area of Kalpitiya.
The operation was conducted by a team from the Special Boat Squadron, SLNS Vijaya, within the Northwestern Naval Command.
The arrested suspects, aged between 21 to 43, were identified as residents in Kalpitiya and Talawila areas.
The suspects, along with three dinghies and sea cucumber, were handed over to the Customs Preventive Office in Katunayake for legal proceedings.

The Government today tabled in the House the Report of the Commission to Inquiry into the Establishment and Maintenance of Unlawful Places of Detention and Torture Chambers in the Batalanda Housing Scheme.
