The Sri Lanka Navy last night arrested three persons who were attempting to smuggle 33 sacks of turmeric into the country from India.
The navy seized the stock of turmeric and arrested three suspects from a fishing boat during a raid conducted on the Kudawa beach.
They estimate the seized turmeric to be worth nearly Rs 5 million.
The suspects are aged 27, 32 and 33 years of age and are residents of Kandakuliya. The turmeric is to be handed over to the Sri Lanka Customs office in Katunayaka.
