Navy stepped up its operations to establish required infrastructure and facilities for the upcoming annual Kachchativu feast scheduled to be held on February 23 and 24 at St Antony’s Church located on Kachchativu Island.
Thousands of Catholic devotees from across Palk Straits will be taking part in the feast on the islet located near the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) of Sri Lanka and India. The mass will be conducted by the Bishop of Jaffna Diocese Rt. Rev. Justin Gnanapragasam.
Following the request made by the District Secretary to provide necessary arrangements for the event, the Sri Lanka Navy is working on providing facilities for the convenience of devotees, Navy said.
This includes setting up sanitation and drinking water facilities, temporary shelters, roads, jetties, and ensuring electricity supply, all in preparation for the upcoming annual feast.
Furthermore, the Navy will also deploy lifesaving teams and medical teams with a temporary Sick Bay for the safety and security of the devotees attending the festival.
