The fishing boat that was taken into custody with nearly 300 kilograms of heroin had left from the Devundara Fisheries Harbour, investigations have revealed.
Ten suspects were taken into custody in relation to the drug bust, conducted jointly by the Sri Lanka Navy, Special Task Force (STF) and the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB).
Six suspects were arrested from the boat while the other four were arrested on land. The operation was conducted from 11.00pm on November 6 to 7.00am on November 7 about 12 nautical miles of the Hambantota coast.
The vessel's captain is among those who were arrested, police said.
The seized fishing boat, identified as "Kavindu Putha" was brought to the Southern Naval Command Base yesterday (7).
