Major General Dinesh Nanayakkara, from Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, has been appointed as the new Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army effective from September 16.
Major General Nanayakkara, an officer with over 35 years of distinguished service, hails from the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and also serves as the Colonel of the Regiment.
He joined the army in 1989, trained at the Indian Military Academy and the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, has held numerous command, staff, and instructional roles.
Throughout his career, he has been recognized with multiple military awards, including the Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) for bravery and the Vishishta Seva Vibhushanaya (VSV) for distinguished service.
He has also served as a UN military observer and is a graduate of the National Defence University in Indonesia.
