New Electricity Act to be introduced
Cabinet Ministers green lighted the introduction of a new Electricity Act in order to ‘ to cater contemporary socio - economic and administrative requirements when introducing institutional reformations for the electricity sector.”, according to the Cabinet brief memorandum.
The proposal was made by Minister of Electricity and Power Kanchana Wijesekera.

Customs seize Rs. 119 Mn worth of cigarettes and whisky hidden in furniture shipment
In a major detection at the Ceylon Shipping Lines (CSL) warehouse in Colombo 09, Sri Lanka Customs officers uncovered a large consignment of contraband cigarettes and whisky concealed within a shipment declared as household furniture and personal goods.
