A Gazette notification has been issued by all District Returning Officers stating that Local Government elections cannot be held as scheduled on April 25, 2023.
The District Returning Officers have further indicated that a new date for the election will be announced once the Treasury allocates funds or the Supreme Court makes a decision on the unresolved issue.
The Local Government elections were scheduled to be held on March 09, 2023 at the outset but were held back due to required funds not being released for the election to be conducted.
The election was postponed for April 25, 2023. However, the Treasury is yet to allocate funds for the election, while a case is also underway at the Supreme Court pertinent to the election.
