A mobile application for train seat reservation https://seatreservation.railway.gov.lk – the first of its kind in Sri Lanka was launched last week by the Department of Railways.
This will enable train passengers to book train seats in Sri Lanka from anywhere in the world in the future. The automatic ticket booking system offers the passengers the facility of booking tickets for all the routes, the department said. Under this initiative, the issue of tickets has been upgraded to the issue of railway licenses and permits. By now, the entire process of issue of tickets has been digitalized.
In the future, the use of paper will be minimized in the Railway Department as e-tickets will be issued through this system and those tickets will be able to be verified by the QR code.
Passengers will be able to purchase tickets in first-class observation compartments, second-class and third-class compartments for up and down journeys in a few steps, on the trains and for destinations allowed for seat reservation.
Payments for this facility can be made through several methods including Visa, master and Lanka QR and the reserved tickets can be obtained by visiting the railway stations with m ticketing service and by presenting the National Identity Card or the Passport along with the reference number of the ticket.
Mr. Monty Ranatunga, Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, Mr. Dhammika Jayasundara, General Manager, Railways, Mr. Shasika Senarath, General Marketing Manager, SLT Mobitel, as well as officials from the Railway Department and SLT Mobitel were also present on the occasion.
