US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth today confirmed that an American submarine had sunk the Iranian warship in the Indian ocean.
Mr Hegseth addressing a press conference in Washington a short while ago said that it was for the first time since World War II a torpedo had been used to sink an enemy ship.
“Last night in the Indian Ocean, an American submarine sank an Iranian warship. They thought they were safe in the international waters. Instead it was sunk by a torpedo. A quiet death. The first sinking of an enemy war ship by a torpedo, after World War II.”
At least 32 sailors have been rescued and brought to the Karapitiya hospital in Galle while over 100 are reported missing.
