The Railway Department announced that all night mail services scheduled for tonight have been cancelled due to the ongoing strike by the Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Union.
The strike began yesterday with the union releasing a list of 16 demands around recruitment numbers, promotions and other allowances.
The Ministry has since released a statement claiming that the strike was “unjustified” as measures to implement some of the demands are underway at the moment.
Eight night mail journeys, including the Colombo–Badulla, Batticaloa–Colombo, Trincomalee–Colombo, and Jaffna–Colombo routes, have been affected. Several services were also impacted and cancelled this morning as a result of the strike.
