A woman and eight male suspects selling drugs have been arrested during search operations carried out by the Special Task Force (STF) near a temple, educational institute and hardware in Ambalantota, officials said today.
According to information received by STF Ambalanthota Camp, they conducted raids in front of the Kirihadu Rajamaha Vihara, Viduma Educational Institute and a hardware on the Beligahagoda road, where they arrested the nine suspects.
The eight males are between the ages 19 and 43, while the female is aged 39. The suspects, who are residents of Ambalantota and Suriyawewa areas, had engaged in drug trafficking for a long period of time.
They were in possession of 19g 770mg of heroin, a sim card, a telephone, a motorbike, a three wheeler and a “Boom” machine used to consume drugs.
The suspects were handed over to the Ambalanthota Police for further investigation.
The raids were conducted by the STF Ambalanthota Camp Commanding Officer Inspector A. Piyathilaka, under the guidance of Hambantota Zonal Commanding Officer Assistant Superintendent of Police W. A. A. P. S. Kumara.
