News

Omani authorities said that eight Indian nationals and one Sri Lankan crew member were rescued on Wednesday (17) from the capsized Comorian-flagged oil tanker, the ‘Prestige Falcon’ off their coast.

They were rescued during the Search and Rescue mission by the Indian Navy's warship INS Teg.

Nine crew members had been rescued, according to Oman’s Maritime Security Center (MSC), but one crew member had been found dead.

Meanwhile, the Indian embassy in Muscat is coordinating the operations with Omani authorities and the Indian Navy. They said, "The embassy is coordinating search and rescue operations for the MT Prestige Falcon, a Comoros flagged vessel that capsized off the coast of Oman on July 15, with Omani authorities and the Indian Navy."

According to the Indian Navy, despite the inclement weather, India and Oman are continuing their search for the remaining crew members.

The 117-meter oil product tanker “Prestige Falcon” with a crew of 13 Indians and 3 Sri Lankans, capsized off the coast of Duqm on Tuesday (16), Oman’s main industrial port, while en route to Aden.

According to Oman’s MSC , the ship is still submerged and inverted.
