The No-Confidence Motion (NCM) against Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody was defeated in Parliament a short while ago by a majority of 104 votes.
The ruling National People's Power (NPP) used its two-thirds parliamentary majority to easily defeat the NCM against the Energy Minister, with 153 NPP MPs casting their votes against the motion. The NCM received the support of 49 opposition MPs.
MPs from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi, New Democratic Front, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and Sarvajana Balaya, along with Independent Group MP Ramanathan Archchuna, voted in support of the NCM.
Parliament will not convene for the rest of this month owing to the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. The House will reconvene at 9.30am on May 5.
