The Government will not issue a fresh gazette on disposal of COVID-19 dead as the 'technical committee' advising the Health Ministry on the subject has not submitted any fresh recommendations, COVID Disease Control State Minister Dr Sudarshini Fernandopulle said.
As the committee has not seen it fit to make any further recommendations, there will be no change in the current "cremation only" policy on the disposal of dead bodies of those dying of COVID-19 she stressed.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa recently told Parliament that burial of COVID victims will be allowed, but the Government later clarified that the PM was expressing his personal view.
