Minister of Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development Jeevan Thondaman assured that water rates would not be raised this year.
He further emphasized that the proposed water tariff formula will be implemented with consideration for the welfare of the public, guaranteeing the least amount of hardship.
According to Minister Thondaman, difficulties confronted by the Tamil community in the upcountry should be addressed on a larger scale than just daily pay.
He further drew attention to the significance of improving their standard of living through the resolution of multiple challenges including housing, land, health, education, and infrastructure.
Minister Thondaman further disapproved the unnecessary nature of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed by certain political parties to resolve issues faced by the upcountry Tamil populace, stating genuine solutions do not necessitate MoUs.
The Minister made these remarks during a press conference on Monday (Feb.26), held at the Presidential Media Center themed “Collective path to a stable country.”
